Viva Donates Savings to Charity (30/01/2009)
Viva Translations, a leading Iberian language provider, today announced its donation of holiday card savings to charity.
Viva Translations decided to send electronic holiday cards in 2008 instead of the traditional hard copies sent to its customers, partners and suppliers every holiday season. It did this to help ease up on the environment, in other words to save a few trees, but also to save the money that would have been spent on purchasing the cards and postage. In turn, these savings would be donated to charity.
Further, Viva Translations decided to make the process more democratic by allowing the card recipients to vote for one of four charities nominated by the Viva staff. These included Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome (Portugese Food Bank), Médecins Sans Frontiéres (International Humanitarian Medical Aid Agency), Make a Wish Foundation (U.S. Children’s Wish-Granting Organization) and Abraço (Portuguese AIDS Organization).
The winning charity was Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome, to which Viva Translations donated its 2008 holiday card savings.
Commenting on the initiative, Viva's Managing Director stated, "Viva is pleased to contribute, even in a small way, to making the world a better place to live for all. With this iniciative, we also hope to incentivize other companies to also look for ways to contribute, in either a big or small way."
